Bighorn Mountain Snowmobile Rentals

Explore Wyoming’s Backcountry

How it works

With both guided & unguided options available, our snowmobile rentals in the Bighorn Mountains can be catered to fit your needs. You can pick up your rental at our shop, Wyoming High Country Lodge, 1088 E Brundage Lane in Sheridan, Wyoming, have it dropped off for a fee, or rent a trailer from us.

We partner with Ski-Doo’s Uncharted Society to ensure you have the best machines available. While we are closest to the Bighorn Mountains, you are free to take the snowmobile wherever as long as it’s in permitted for snowmobile use.

Pick up times can vary, and we will do our best to work with you! Most clients pick up their rental early in the morning, or the night before (no extra charge).

**Rentals must be returned full of fuel or we will charge the card on file and fill the sled ourselves.

While you don’t need a guide to rent from us, we highly recommend going with someone who knows what they are doing if it’s your first time! If you book a guided tour with us, you get 20% off your rental when you use the code “fullsend” at checkout.

If you are booking multiple days, you receive 15% the total price. Enter code “snow” at checkout.

Snowmobile rentals are picked up from 1088 E Brundage Lane, Sheridan, Wyoming or can be delivered for a one time $50 fee. Guests of Wyoming High Country Lodge do not need to worry about this. If you book a guide with a rental, there is also no fee.

About our Fleet

The difference between a mountain sled and a trail sled:

We get asked this question a lot when people are inquiring about renting a snowmobile. Clients will ask “I would like to rent a snowmobile” and we say, “Awesome, which kind would you like? A mountain sled or a trail sled?” Then they proceed to ask “What’s the difference?”

Mountain snowmobiling is challenging, physically demanding, and adrenaline packed. Skill is required. If you’re ok with learning a new skill and not being instantly good at something, mountain snowmobiling is a blast, but we highly recommend going with a guide or someone who has done it before.

Trail riding requires very minimal skill. While still a ton of fun, it is more laid back and focused on enjoying the great outdoors. While both options will offer scenery, they couldn’t be anymore different in terms of overall experience. Our mountain sleds have a lot of horsepower, while our trail sleds are easy going.

Frequently asked questions

Q: What are pickup times and drop off times?

A: These are totally custom within reason. Please let us know in the “notes” section when booking what times you would like your rental. Most clients pick up their rental at 7:45am and drop them off at 6:00pm.

Q: How do I book multiple days?

A: You have to treat each day as its own transaction. Hoping our reservation software allows us to book multiple days in one transaction in the future, but for now, Fareharbor only allows one day at a time to be booked. Meaning you will have to enter your credit card info for each day or add multiple days to your “cart”.

Q: Can I keep my rental overnight?

A: Yes, multi-day rentals may be kept overnight. You may also be able to pick up your rental the evening before your rental date.

Q: I have never snowmobiled before, which type of sled do I want?

A: Backcountry snowmobiling and trail riding are nearly two totally different sports. Backcountry riding is a physically demanding challenge that requires skill and time to be good at. It can still be an absolute blast for beginners, but if you don’t like learning new things and just want to simply relax, then a trail sled might be up your alley. Trail sleds are still a blast, but we relax and soak in the scenery more on a trail sled.

Q: How does insurance work?

A: Insurance is built into our pricing. Any damages over $1000 dollars insurance may cover. Any damages under $1000 we will charge parts, labor, and potentially missed revenue if we have to cancel reservations of others.
